In case you have not heard, canal fishing has been red hot for the past week and a half. Fishing breaking on both the morning and evening tides anywhere from Scusset beach to the train bridge. Most fish were taken on top, while some fish fell prey to swimming lures. White and mackerel colors produced the most, although during the heavy blitzes color seemed to be much less of a factor. More recently, fish have been a little more finicky and have been further out. Using metal lures like crippled herring and similar lures, people may cast far enough to reach them. We have still seen peanut bunker and mackerel in the canal as well as squid reappearing and some sand eels on the west end.
